DP531: THEOLOGY OF THE ARMENIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH. K. G. Haleblian.


DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to give a general introduction to the theology of the Armenian Orthodox Church. Protestant and Catholic Armenian theological positions on key issues will be discussed briefly. Special attention will be given not only to past theological tenets of the Church, but also to the directions Armenian theology should take in the future.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
Students taking this class will be able to appreciate Armenian Orthodox theology and liturgy and to some extent the theological and liturgical tenets of the Protestant and Catholic Armenian Churches.

COURSE FORMAT:
The class will meet weekly for a three-hour session for lecture and discussion. Lectures will be in English.

A bibliography of selected readings of English and Armenian sources will be distributed in class.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Assigned readings will be required in preparation for each class. One major research paper will also be required. Final grades will be based on the following ratio:
  1. Class attendance and participation 20%

  2. Reading report 20%

  3. A major research paper 30%

  4. Final Examination 30%

None.

Meets M. Div. core requirement in Pastoral Ministry and Theology (MIN 6).

FINAL EXAMINATION:
Yes. The final examination will consist of a series of objective questions.
