NE506: NEW TESTAMENT EXEGESIS: GOSPEL OF LUKE. David M. Scholer.

DESCRIPTION:

This course is a study of Luke's presentation of Jesus in its literary, historical and theological contexts with emphasis on distinctive Lukan material. Attention is given to the Gospel of Luke's place in the gospel traditions, its relationship to Acts and the theological issues it raises within the context of the early church.

RELEVANCE FOR MINISTRY:
An understanding of the Gospel of Luke, particularly its christology, its presentation of "radical discipleship" and issue of material possessions, its concern for persons usually neglected in Jesus' social context and its relationship to the Judaism of Jesus' context, provides a crucial foundation for Christian teaching, preaching and reflections on biblical theology and obedient life.

This course will consist of lectures, individual and class work with the text and, hopefully, vigorous discussion. The class will meet twice a week for two-hour sessions.
