10:00 am Philosophical Resources for Integration Nancey Murphy

This lecture will examine an account of the nature and evaluation of scientific theories as found in the work of Imre Lakatos. His model of a scientific research program, along with Arthur Peacocke's account of theology as top-most in the hierarchy of the sciences, will be used to model the relationship between theology and psychology. Theology will be understood as the source of answers to "boundary questions" in psychology such as the question of the ultimate good for human life.

A Christian research program in psychology will have as its core thesis a theological account of the telos of human life (e.g., self-renunciation out of love for the other) and will investigate means for assisting people in reaching that goal.
