Philosophical Resources for Integration Nancey Murphy
This lecture will examine an account of the nature and
evaluation of scientific theories as found in the work of Imre Lakatos. His
model of a scientific research program, along with Arthur Peacocke's account of
theology as top-most in the hierarchy of the sciences, will be used to model the
relationship between theology and psychology. Theology will be understood as the
source of answers to "boundary questions" in psychology such as the question of
the ultimate good for human life.

This lecture will examine one theological account of what
it means to be human and of the ultimate goal of human life, that of the
Radical-Reformation tradition. According to this tradition nonviolence and

Constructing a Radical-Reformation Research Program in Psychology
Nancey Murphy
Alasdair MacIntyre understands ethics as the discipline
that teaches us how to move from untutored human nature toward our telos. This
lecture proposes that psychology's role is complementary. A Christian research
program in psychology will have as its core thesis a theological account of the
telos of human life (e.g., self-renunciation out of love for the other) and will
investigate means for assisting people in reaching that goal.
