SOP Alumni/ae Mentoring Network
SOP Alumni/ae Home | SOP Home | FTS Home | FTS Alumni/ae Home |

Our Vision: To connect alumni/ae and current students in an effort to provide an opportunity for mutual social, professional, and spiritual support.

Events
On Tuesday, April 9, 2002, the School of Psychology hosted an Alumni/ae Mentoring Network Dinner at Il Fornaio restaurant in Old Town Pasadena. The purpose of the gathering was to offer support and encouragement to the newest generation of student/alumni/ae matches. Two mentorship pairs were present along with several students whose mentors were unable to attend. Our 3 guests--Lucy Guernsey, Walter Wright and Jim Steinwedell--shared inspiring stories about the life changing quality of a successful mentoring relationship. TO VIEW PICTURES CLICK HERE.

Resources
Below are resources designed to offer support for our alumni/ae and students who are invovled in the Alumni/ae Mentoring network.

CAMPUS PIPELINE is a great way to stay connected to the School of Psychology and each other. If you haven't already signed up, please do so now by clicking here. Alumni/ae, email Jennifer if you have any trouble. Once you have logged in, be sure to join the SOP AMN group. Just select the group icon at the top of the page, then select group index, then choose Alumni/ae groups, and finally click on SOPAMN group to join. When you and your mentor/mentee have joined the group, you will be able to chat live online! For those of you in long distance matches this will hopefully help increase communication. Check it out and let us know what you think!

There is a mystery about the successful mentoring relationship that is elusive. For that reason establishing and maintianing a successful mentorship program is a difficult task. Ideally these relationships evolve naturally out of mutual interest. Our goal in the SOP dean's office is to create an opportunity for students and alumni/ae to make a connection. Our hope is that the connection will grow into a relationship that is meaningful and rewarding for both participants. We are here to help you foster and facilitate growth in each other and hopefully to establish stong mentorship relationships. There is no guarantee the match will be magical. It takes hard work to stay in touch and sometimes the chemistry just isn't there. Please keep us informed of your journey as a mentorship team. We want to know how you are doing so we can provide support and, when necessary, make adjustments.
