WELCOME!
"Houston." It ws the first word spoken on the moon. In the years since that occasion, the city of Houston has evolved from an oil-driven gulf coast town to the fourth-largest city in the United States.
Just as Houston has grown and evolved, the Christian faith has seen some radical changes in the past few years. Houston, in particular, has been witness to an emergence of a new evangelical movement, one that will shape the look of the church in the coming years.
The challenge is preparing the leaders of this generation of evangelicals. This is not a generation content to simply sit in a classroom and earn a degree. They are ready to immerse themselves in culture and community, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The city of Houston is uniquely positioned to provide the type of real-world classroom that will be so vital to the spiritual formation of these students. Mega-churches of nearly every denomination as well as dozens of store-front and home-based congregations. Rich and varied mission efforts with both local and global outreach. The Texas Medical Center is the world's largest concentration of research and healthcare facilities. Ethnic diversity flourishes in multiple suburban and urban population centers. All this as well as NASA, oil and gas, and cowboys!
Recognizing this unique situation, Fuller Theological Seminary is pleased to offer its newest extension site in Houston, Texas. Beginning in the fall of 2006, Fuller will be offering occasional School of Theology courses. All of these courses are offered in convenient evening, weekend, and intensive formats. There is something to fit the scheduling needs of any student. In the future, we hope to expand the program to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities found in the Houston area.
At Fuller we seek to be both evangelical and ecumenical, to train our students in both scholarship and spirituality, and to call the church to both evangelism and social action. These qualities make Fuller a wonderful and exciting place to equip men and women for the manifold ministries of Christ and his Church.
Changes will continue to come, but Fuller will continue to maintain an unchanging focus for an ever-changing world.
