The Master of Arts in Family Studies (MAFS) provides in-depth coursework for those who wish to develop the competence needed to work with couples, families, youths and children in non-clinical settings, both in and out of the local church context.  The degree program emphasizes knowledge and skills in family life education, including preventive work with couples and parents.

The MAFS requires the successful completion of 84 quarter units, and a typical class constitutes 4 units.  In addition to full-time and part-time study at the main campus in Pasadena, options are also available for taking theology/intercultural studies courses in a combination of online, individualized distance learning or extension campus module.

Admissions Information

Applicants for the Master of Arts program in Family Studies must submit the following:

• official transcripts of all post-secondary schools attended, showing a bachelor's degree earned from an accredited institution of higher learning, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.  Although not required for admission, introductory course in social science research methodology or statistics is strongly recommended.
• official test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), taken within the past five years.
• evidence of personal maturity as communicated through three references, the applicant’s written statement of purpose, and the applicant’s religious autobiography.
• Fuller's application form, with application fee attached.

Note: Applicants to the MA in Family Studies program for whom English is not their native language or the medium of instruction for all secondary and post-secondary education are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS Academic Format taken within the past two years in addition to the GRE.
